KCA Supports Developing Countries by Sharing Korea’s Consumer Protection System and Know-How - Training Program Hosted for Consumer Affairs Officials from Bangladesh, El Salvador, and Kenya - The Korea Consumer Agency (President Yoon Soo Hyun) in collaboration with Korea International Cooperation Agency (President Chang Won-sam) will conduct a two-week training program from June 8 to June 21 aimed at ‘Capacity Building for Improvement and Specialization of Consumer Protection.’ The program will invite officials responsible for consumer administration from developing countries. This year, 13 consumer affairs officials from Bangladesh, El Salvador, and Kenya will participate in a training program designed to strengthen the capacity to enhance consumer rights in developing countries. The KCA will share Korea’s consumer administrative framework as well as the KCA’s experiences and know-how in consumer protection. In particular, this year is the final phase of a three-year program that began in 2023. To strengthen its impact, the program has been expanded to include workshops designed to develop policy plans for advancing consumer protection systems, as well as offer consumer empowerment measures, along with hands-on field experiences. During their stay, the visiting officers from developing countries will attend expert lectures and site visits related to consumer policies, laws, and systems, strengthening their practical knowledge as consumer protection professionals. They will also have opportunities to understand and experience Korea’s history and traditional culture by visiting palaces and heritage sites. Through this training program, the KCA aims to share its 38 years of experience in consumer protection and the Korean consumer system with KOICA, contributing to Korea’s role as a global hub and enhancing its status as a specialized consumer institution in the international community. At today’s orientation ceremony, President Yoon Soo Hyun of the KCA emphasized, “In the era of digital artificial intelligence, consumer issues are becoming ever more complex, requiring advanced response capabilities. We hope this program will help participating countries further enhance their consumer administrative systems and protection level.” |
