KCA Holds Ceremony to Acknowledge its 2024 College Student Advertising Monitoring Group - Participants Uncovered 1,002 Cases of Suspected Malicious Labeling and Advertising - On Tuesday, August 6, the Korea Consumer Agency held a graduation ceremony for its College Student Advertisement Monitoring Group at its Seoul regional office in Songpa-gu. The 50 college students (split into 25 teams) were selected through an open process and following their inauguration in April, spent three months monitoring for cases of malicious labeling and advertising. The Advertising Monitoring Group monitored online shopping malls and SNS channels that are preferred by the younger generation and uncovered 1,002 cases of suspected malicious advertising in sectors such as cosmetic supplements such as “diet creams that make you lose weight when applied,” dog food, and cat nutritional supplements, and other sectors which have recently seen an explosion of transactions. This is about three times more than the 337 cases uncovered by last year’s cohort. The Korea Consumer Agency plans to review the cases that were uncovered and recommend remedial measures to the businesses using the adverts giving a high risk of damage to consumers. |
