Coffee and Beverage Franchises Need to Improve the Display of Nutritional Information

- It is necessary to provide information on products with high suger and calorie content-

While coffee and beverage franchises are continuously releasing high-sugar menus loaded with fruits and syrup, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced last year that Koreans consume the most sugar through beverage.

Accordingly, Korea Consumer Agency (President Jang Duck-Jin, KCA) compared the nutrition facts of beverages (coffee, smoothie, and ade) sold at 29 coffee and beverage franchises*, and found that some need to improve their information provision since their sugar content exceeds the recommended amount for daily intake (50g). 

* Coffee and beverage franchises that operate more than 200 stores (October 2021)
