Some Shower Head Filters Have Insufficient Dechlorinating Effect

While an increasing number of consumers are purchasing shower head filters to maintain sanitation of tap water, some products that claim to be effective in removing residual chlorine are found to have insufficient performance.

Korea Consumer Agency(President Jang Duck-Jin, KCA) conducted an assessment of 20 shower head filters distributed·sold online.

7 out of 20 shower head filters had insufficient dechlorinating effect

All 20 products emphasized the residual chlorine removal effect, and some of them had phrases such as ‘dechlorinates 100%’ in their advertisement. However, as a result of the efficiency test* done in a setting that resembles the actual usage environment**, seven(35.%) products could remove less than 80% of the residual chlorine.

* Applied water purification test method stipulated in Public Notice on Designation of Standards and Inspection Institutes

** Used tap water as the water source, connected a shower hose to the sample(shower head filers) and applied water pressure of 1kgf/cm2[as stipulated in water supply standards for certification of environmental signs for products for waterworks]
