Quality of heated vests varies by product in terms of warmth and more

- Some products display surface temperature exceeding safety standards for clothing -

Recently, in order to increase the warmth of clothing, heated vests with portable batteries are sold at various brands and price ranges, but there is insufficient information on their objective standard of quality and safety.

Therefore, the Korea Consumer Agency (President Lee Hee-sook, KCA) tested and evaluated the warmth, safety, and usability for 10 heated vest products* to provide consumers with objective information for product selection.

* Nepa Safety Heated Vest, New Ziro 2019 HIT-6 Thermal Vest, Ddaseumi Heated Vest, Blackyak S-Heated Vest, Swiss Military HIVE-310, Xylo JC-3012C, K2 NAV Engineered Ball Padding Vest (HEAT 360), K2 Safety Hybrid Heated Vest, Kolping Temi Heated Vest, and Treksta Safety Heated vest V30

The test results showed that 4 products exceeded the safety standards* for clothing due to the high surface temperature of the heated area, while the warmth, temperature at each stage, and heat retention time varied by product. Some products had the possibility of staining other products when put on, and 9 products did not satisfy the standards in their labeling information.
