Metallic substances and coliform found from barley sprout powder sold online

Advertised to be good for weight control and health, barley sprout in powder form has become popular among consumers. However, consumers are advised to take notice that poor products safety- and hygiene-wise are sold in the market.

The Korea Consumer Agency (President: Lee Hee Sook) tested 20 barley sprout products* sold online. Metallic substances (iron powder) or coliform bacillus above the tolerance levels were found from 11 products (55%), which were collected and destroyed.
