Different heating and defrosting performance in Microwave calling for extra attention

- No danger of electromagnetic waves electric shock -

Microwave is one of the most-used home appliances for convenience food as the number of single or double-income families are on the rise. Microwave is being sold at various models and prices but the subjective information on its quality is insufficient.

The Korea Consumer Agency(President Han Kyeon-pyo) has conducted and examined the quality and safety(protection from electric shock, electromagnetic waves) of 8 products in 8 different companies including heating, defrosting(appropriate temperature, defrosting speed) and noise in order to provide consumers with legitimate information on products.

After the examination, the products had difference in heating systems that assess the heating capability, defrosting that gauges temperature, defrosting speed, noise and consumer electricity.

On the other hand, all the products turned to have no problems in danger of electric shock, safety of electromagnetic waves and cooking tests.

 □ The quality of heating systems and defrosting(appropriate temperature, defrosting speed)is different among products. (See page 7)

ㅇ(Heating Performance) After the performance test of heating systems that test the ability to heat food equally, Samsung Electronics(MS23K3523AW) and Electrom(Whirlpool, MWX209WH) had an excellent score while Dayou-winia(MWA20MW), Dongbu Daewoo Electronics(KR-M203BSW), Magic Chef(MEM-GS20W) and Electrolux Korea(EMM2322MK) had a good point. And LG Electronics(MW23GD) and SK Magic(MWO-20EC9) recorded an average score. 

ㅇ(Appropriate Temperature for Defrosting) In defrosting beef, Magic Chef(MEM-GS20W), Electrom(Whirlpool, MWX209WH), SK Magic(MWO-20EC9) achieved an excellent performance while Electronics(MS23K3523AW) and LG Electronics(MW23GD) got a good grade. And Electrolux Korea(EMM2322MK) had an average score.

ㅇ(Defrosting Speed) Samsung Electronics(MS23K3523AW) had an excellent score. Dayou-winia(MWA20MW), Dongbu Daewoo Electronics(KR-M203BSW), Electrolux Korea(EMM2322MK) and LG Electronics(MW23GD) had a good score. Meanwhile, Magic Chef(MEM-GS20W), Electrom(Whirlpool, MWX209WH) and SK Magic(MWO-20EC9) got an average score.

 □ 2 products had an excellent score in nose (See page 9)

ㅇ(Noise) Dongbu Daewoo Electronics(KR-M203BSW) and Electrolux Korea(EMM2322MK) got an excellent score with little noise. Dongbu Daewoo Electronics(KR-M203BSW), Magic Chef(MEM-GS20W), Samsung Electronics(MS23K3523AW), Electrom(Whirlpool, MWX209WH), LG Electronics(MW23GD) and SK Magic(MWO-20EC9) had a good performance.

 □ Different power consumption but alternative power suitable for standards of all the products (See page 10)

ㅇ(Power Consumption) Power consumption between 119Wh and 146Wh is required to cook frozen pizza. And alternative power turned out to be suitable for standards of all the products.

* Alternative Power: less than 1W(regulation on alternative power reduction program)

 □ All the products had no problems in safety(protection from electric shock, electromagnetic waves)

ㅇ (Safety) After examining the level of danger of electric shock electromagnetic waves(leakage of high frequency, magnetic field), nothing was found.

* leakage of high frequency: less than 50W/m2 (Safety Standard for electrical appliances), magnetic field: less than 833mG(60㎐) (protection standard of electromagnetic waves of human body).
