 43.8% Gap Depending on Distributors among the Most Frequently Consumed Convenience Food

- Large retailers had the cheapest, followed by traditional markets -

 

As double-income families increase, convenience food is in high demand. The Korea Consumer Agency(President Han, Kyeon-pyo) analyzed price of 38 convenience food and turned out that large retailers had a relatively low price.

* Instant prepared food(27): instant rice(2), cups with rice(6), instant porridge(6), Korean-style soups(5), instant broth(1), instant curry(2),

instant black-bean-sauce(2), soup(3)

Types of ramen(11): ramens(3), instant cup noodles(8)

As of 12 April, after looking into 80 places including nationwide large retailers(30), traditional markets(21), SSM(super supermarkets, 15), department stores(11), convenience stores(3), large retailers had a relatively low price in 30 goods such as Korean-style soups, instant porridge, soups and cup noodles. 6 goods including instant rice and cups with rice were low in price in the traditional markets.

 

Also, after calculating the price of 10 goods that had the largest portion of stores, large retailers had 16,383 won, lower than convenience stores(21,933 won) by 25.3 percent and SSM(19,143 won) by 14.4 percent.

 

Among 38 of convenience food, the goods that had the largest gap in price was “Ottogi Beef Bone Stock”, accounting for 43.8 percent, followed by “Ottogi 3 Minutes Beef Curry” by (38.5%), “Ottogi 3 Minutes Beef Black-Bean-Sauce”(38.2%), “ Dongwon Yangban beef porridge”(37.1%).

 

Meanwhile, after looking at the price trend for 4 months, the price of cups with rice(3.9%), instant black-bean-sauce(1.3%), tpyes of instant curries(1.2%), types of soup(1.0%) went up while that of instant rice type(-0.6%), types of ramens(-0.3%), types of instant cup noodles(-0.3%) fell down compared to the third week in April

 

The Korea Consumer Agency said that consumers need to make a wide decision by comparing price due to the price difference depending on distribution type. You can visit a webite(www.price.go.kr) for sale price and discount information.
