Due to Increases Fraudulent Brand-name Shopping Mall; Consumers should be Careful when Directly Purchase Overseas

- Refer to international consumer portal sites when “Canada Goose" consumer damage takes place -

 

    Winter is around the corner and before big buy season such as Christmas, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, consumers complain regarding “Canada Goose” skyrocketed in a short period of time that consumers need to be more careful when making purchase decision.

 

    According to Korea Consumer Agency(www.kca.go.kr), consumer complain regarding “Canada Goose” through websites such as consumer portal sites(crossborder.kca.go.kr) within the recent ten days (Nov 15, 2016 24 Nov, 2016) amounted to 33 cases particularly 11cases were reported in Nov 24th alone.

 

    Fraudulent shopping mall (hereinafter refer to as “fake shopping mall”) that pretends to sell official Canada Goose products shows “Canada Goose Korea Official Shopping Mall” but after checking Canada official shopping mall(canadagoose.co.kr), that website turned out to sell fake shopping mall.

 

    According to recent consumer complaints, people said that they get to know the fake shopping mall through Social Network advertisement, and famous foreign online shopping mall banner advertisement. We are currently unable to contact the website in question and some consumers complain that product they purchased were fake. Some fake shopping mall changed the website address similar to the previous address and made consumers to access through previous shopping mall and continue to sell fake products so consumers should pay extra attention.

    KCA is actively responding by posting preemptive measures not to fall victim of fraudulent website, and ask credit card company for cooperation to prevent further damage. Also, KCA plans to swiftly react to direct oversea purchase damages by continuing to monitor oversea market, information sharing with relevant agencies and others.

 

    Go to Cross Border Transaction Consumer Portal and prevention measures and check warnings of KCA and those are as follow. ▲In case of foreign brand-name products, confirm that the website is official shopping mall and double check the website address, Refrain from purchasing products through newly created website, Go through website credibility check test before making a purchase decision, and Do not make purchase from website that do not identify sellers’ contact information such as email, address, or phone number.

    As one of Government3.0 measures, starting from the last Oct, KCA is running 「 Cross Border Transaction Consumer Portal (http://crossborder.kca.go.kr)to promote safe consumer overseas transaction, and is providing preventive measures, guidelines, customs, customs procedures, and parallel import information.

 

    To prevent damages from overseas purchase, it is recommended that consumers refer to “overseas purchase guideline” and “Overseas Damage Prevention Checkpoint”.
