KCA, Reinforces Monitoring on Recalled Products as Direct Overseas Purchase Increases

 - Various measures including ban selling, recall, and refund on 26 products -

    As a result of Korea Consumer Agency (www.kca.go.kr) strengthening market monitoring on defected products to secure consumer purchasing pattern safety, KCA confirmed that 26 products that have recalled since Jan – March, 2016, are still distributed in Korea that it needs to be fixed.

    Categories of products that are subjected to recall are as follows. ‘Electronic appliances’ and ‘kids appliances’ showed the highest rate in recall 6 cases (23%), ‘cosmetics and chemical substances’ 4cases (15.4%), and ‘leisure appliances’ 3cases (11.5%) were found.

    Out of those products 19 products that selling products history was not confirmed, deleted their products on sale posted in their websites and stopped selling the same product. Also, products that official domestic companies import·distribute such as kids applications(IKEA, LATTJO Tongue Drum,), ceiling lamps(IKEA, HYBY and LOCK Ceiling lamps), kids trailer(Comete bicycle, Child Bicycle Trailers), and other products that Korean consumers bought abroad or through overseas websites directly, will be fixed, changed or refund at no additional expenses.

    As the number of consumers wishing to purchase through overseas website directly, KCA is planning to promptly respond to reported defect products not to be distribute in Korea. Also, those who purchased or planning to purchase goods through overseas websites are recommended to refer to websites like Consumer Injury Surveillance System (www.ciss.go.kr), Smart Consumer (www.smartconsumer.go.kr) and others to frequently check on recall information of overseas products.
