Animation for Prevention of Children’s Accidents Produced/Disseminated - Children's Safety Campaign
Korea Consumer Agency (www.kca.go.kr) has produced five episodes of the animation to prevent children’s accidents between the ages of 6 and 10 by spreading safety awareness throughout society. The animation episodes will be released on TV and provided as educational material to schools.
Children’s accidents are generally attributed to the lack of caution by guardian, and facilities for adults, and the lack of safety awareness. They are often preventable with a little caution. However, there is a shortage of contents tailored to children for raising safety awareness which is available at any time by children, parents, and teachers.
In response, KCA, in cooperation with the EBS (Educational Broadcasting System), produced an educational animation which will elicit high interest and preference among children and broadcast it on the terrestrial channel of EBS1. The KCA anticipates a high contribution to preventing children’s accidents.
This animation uses the educational character developed by EBS, FireRobo. It depicts as heroic feats where the robot prevents accidents in everyday life which threaten the safety of children, and elicits the interest of children, for whom the material is targeted.
In making the animation, the KCA analyzed existing videos on children’s safety and received experts’ consultation to choose the most relevant types of situations where safety is required in everyday life. The KCA produced the animation(3D CGI) for educating safety by narrowing down locations into five types; home, market, school, playing facilities, and outdoor activities.
The KCA plans to upload the animations onto its official Web site (www.kca.go.kr), Smart Consumer (www.smartconsumer.go.kr), Consumer Injury Surveillance System (www.ciss.go.kr), and Children’s Safety Net (www.isafe.go.kr) to be available to all. In addition, the KCA plans to broadcast the animation on February 7 (Sunday) and February 9 (Tuesday) for the first time, then distribute it on IPTV, digital cable VOD, and EBS Youtube channels, etc.
The KCA plans on providing animation to elementary schools, childcare facilities, children’s organizations, relevant institutions, and local governments for free, thereby continuing its efforts to spread a culture on children’s safety.
