Monitoring finds ODP products recalled overseas are being sold in Korea

- 13 products ordered to be pulled from market -

  The Korea Consumer Agency (www.kca.go.kr) has monitored and taken measures regarding products which were recalled due to safety issues overseas that are available for purchase in Korea on overseas direct purchasing (ODP) sites.

  Upon monitoring between September to December 2015 products recalled in the U.S., Europe, and Canada, the KCA has found that nine such products were displayed and sold in certain ODP sites and demanded correction of the relevant businesses. The products have immediately been pulled from the market.

  In addition, the Korean distributors of the relevant brands have agreed to provide free-of-charge repairs, exchanges or refunds to be equal to recalls overseas. They were for 4 products including infant chairs (IKEA, ANTILOP HighChair), laptop computer batteries (Lenovo, Thinkpad Notebook Computer Battery Packs), strollers (APPAbaby, 2015 CRUZ/VISTA/RumbleSeat), and bicycle parts (Cycling Sports Group Inc., Cannondale OPI Stem) which were not sold in Korea, but purchased by Korean consumers while overseas or over the Internet.

  Although the KCA has monitored products recalled from overseas markets being sold in Korea throughout 2015, it is impossible to completely block all such products online. Accordingly, the KCA advises consumers to always check overseas recall information on the Consumer Injury Surveillance System (www.ciss.go.kr) or Smart Consumer (www.smartconsumer.go.kr) websites.

  The KCA plans to continue/step up monitoring of sales in Korea of products recalled overseas and take prompt measures.
