Joint seminar held by KCA and KCLA

-Measures to resolve consumer damages involving cross-border transactions in Korea, China, and Japan-

 

  On August 27, 2015, the Korea Consumer Agency (www.kca.go.kr) and the Korean Consumer Law Association (KCLA) jointly held a seminar at the Seoul Olympic Parktel on resolving consumer damages related to cross-border transaction among Korea, China, and Japan.

 

  The seminar focused on issues related to the cooperative network that was operated on a trial run based on the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed on July 30, 2015 between the Korea Consumer Agency and National Consumer Affairs Center of Japan (NCAC) in order resolve consumer damages related to cross-border transactions. Discussions were also held to expand cooperation with China.

 

  During the morning session, panel discussions were held comprised of experts from the Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC), consumer law associations, and consumer organizations following the presentation on "the status and outlook of resolving cross-border transactions in Korea, China, and Japan.

 

  The afternoon session centered on presentations on right to withdraw from contract and ways to harmonize standards for resolving cross-border transaction disputes followed by discussions among specialists from the academia and business organizations.

 

  The KCA anticipates fruitful outcomes from the seminar, such as formation of a tripartite network to effectively resolve the increasing number of consumer damages related to cross-border transactions.
