KCA offers company-tailored information

- Task force team created to relay consumer information to companies and recommend product improvements -

In January 2015, the Korea Consumer Agency (www.kca.go.kr) created the Consumer Data Analysis Team focused on analyzing consumer counseling/redress cases and safety information and providing them to relevant industries, in order to recommend improvements in products/services and enhance business competitiveness to prevent consumer damages.

In line with the 'Government 3.0' plan and efforts to promote the private sector's use of public data, the KCA has been providing consumer information tailored to companies since 2014.

In 2014, the KCA provided consumer information to the household appliance and travel industries, which contributed to improving travel agency services stemming from consumer complaints/disputes over cancellation policy, upgrading air conditioner warranty service, and extending free repair period of certain humidifiers.

In 2015, the Consumer Data Analysis Team plans to concentrate on providing information to small/medium-sized firms (which are not as capable as large companies in collecting/analyzing consumer information), CCM-certified companies (which mainly carry out consumer-oriented business activities), and other business sectors reeling from aggressive competition by multinational firms.

Furthermore, analytical information will be provided on universally used products and services that are beneficial to businesses and consumers alike.

By linking and converging internal data (such as consumer counseling/redress and safety information collected by the KCA) and external data (such as consumer information of other public institutions), this is to ensure the provision of more accurate information to companies.

In order to generate customized data based on organic communication and cooperation, the KCA conducted a demand survey in January among companies including CCM-certified companies. Since February, the beer industry has been receiving consumer information including feedback and counseling cases on beer quality (e.g. taste, smell and alien substances), container, quantity and price.

The KCA will continue efforts toward creating a reliable and cooperative environment for consumers and businesses by acting as an effective communication channel.
