Various events were held to revitalize consumer policy in Vietnam
On November 19th, the Korea Consumer Agency (President: Dae-pyo Jung, www.kca.go.kr) signed an MOU with the Vietnam Competition Authority (VCA) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in Vietnam to support revitalization of consumer policy in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Based on the MOU, the KCA is going to share best practices and system in consumer protection and also strengthen exchange and cooperation with the VCA in the consumer protection field.
*The Vietnam Competition Authority (VCA) is a Government agency in charge of consumer affairs in Vietnam.
To commemorate the MOU, the KCA held diversified events such as free-of-charge inspection and repair service for household appliances in Hanoi. The event was run as a part of ‘Consumer Day of Vietnam’ to raise public awareness of consumer rights.
Free inspection and repair service was carried out by local subsidiaries of Samsung and LG Electronics in the downtown of Hanoi under the sponsorship of the Organization of Consumer Affairs Professionals in Business (OCAP) of Korea. And it was well received by the Vietnamese public and attended by important figures of political and government circle including the Director General of the VCA. This time of event is expected to improve national brand image and enhance image of Korean companies in Vietnam.
Also, for two-day-long schedule starting from November 20th, the KCA and the VCA held a joint seminar on consumer policies of the two nations including 'policy establishment', 'securing safety', 'spread of information', 'consumer redress', and etc. Furthermore, the KCA delegation paid a visit to local social welfare facility in Vietnam to provide volunteering services as well as make a donation, while visiting the Vietnam Standard and Consumers Association (VINASTAS) to exchange views on general consumer affairs.
Based on the signed MOU, the KCA is going to actively consider ways to support other nations in need of advanced consumer protection system.
The KCA is going to promote "the Consulting Project for Revitalizing Vietnamese Consumer Policy" to revitalize consumer policy of Vietnam via Official Development Assistance (ODA) program run by the KOICA from this year to 2015.
