Price, absorption, and texture vary among baby diapers
<'Smart consumer' provides price and quality comparison information for baby diapers>
In Korea, disposable diaper market has grown up to 445 million dollars per year. Recently, with foreign brands entering the domestic market, diversified baby diapers at different prices from different brands at home and aboard are available in the market. However, there is insufficient information enabling consumers to make a rational choice for diapers.
Against this backdrop, the Korea Consumer Agency (www.kca.go.kr) conducted a comparative test on absorption performance (absorbent capacity, absorbent retention, speed of absorption, etc.) and wearing comfort (texture, smell, lumping, etc.) for 17 different baby diapers from 12 diaper brands available in the Korean market.
■ Testing results
○ Absorbency: 'Oboso Premium (from Oboso, Korea)', 'Bosomi Natural cotton (KleanNara, Korea)', 'Merries (Kao, Japan)' products were found to be excellent.
- In particular, 'Oboso Premium'(0.2$/pcs) and 'Bosomi Natural cotton'(0.21$/pcs) products were excellent in testing absorbency including flowing backward and speed of absorption and were sold at reasonable prices.
- 'Merries' was the best performing diaper in terms of absorbency (flowing backward, speed of absorption, absorbent retention), yet was expensive, thick and heavy.
○ 'Goon Hajimeteno hadaki (Daio Paper, Japan)’(0.25$/pcs), 'Mamipoco (LG UNICHARM, Japan)'(0.25$/pcs), 'Pampers Cruiser (P&G, USA)'(0.41$/pcs), and 'Haggies Premier (Yuhan Kimberly, USA)'(0.28$/pcs) gave low performance (absorption) for their prices.
○ 'Bosomi Soft'(0.18$/pcs), 'New Mamang (LG Household & HealthCare, Korea)'(0.18$/pcs), and 'Todiang Greentea (LG Household & HealthCare, Korea)'(0.19$/pcs) were cheap, but did not do well in testing absorbency (flowing backward and absorbent retention).
