International Campaign on ‘Fraud Prevention Month’: In March, the Korea Consumer Agency conducts an International Campaign on ‘Fraud Prevention Month (FPM)’ to prevent consumer damages due to deceptive transactions related to mobile phones. The Int’l Campaign on Fraud Prevention Month is joined about 20 member nations of the International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network (ICPEN) every year to prevent consumer damages and frauds and share plans to react to the consumer detriment. This year, the KCA particularly puts its Campaign focus on types of emerging consumer damages related to smart phones such as Smishing and damages related to automatic payment of smart pone applications, while informing consumers of tips for damage prevention and redress. The Agency also promotes the Campaign as well as types of major deceptive frauds via diversified channels including website (http://www.kca.go.kr), blog (http://blog.kca.go.kr), and Twitter (http://twitter.com/kca_news). Its promotion plan includes PR events for Campaign participants and production and distribution of PR materials (2,000 wire-bound notebooks) with campaign contents written in Korean and English in covers in collaboration with Busan Metropolitan Government, Ulsan Metropolitan Government, and Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Government. Meanwhile, the KCA has been playing a role as an FPM coordinator from 2011 and conducting activities such as encouraging member nations to take part in the Campaign and collect and report campaign results to member nations during the ICPEN Conference. |
