The Korea Consumer Agency recently announced annul plan of activities in six areas to increase consumer benefits by resolving inconveniences in consumer affairs.

In detail, for complain-handling, the KCA shall revitalize collective Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), introduce new system to request a settlement of a dispute (by cutting down on time limit for consumer redress), enhance efficiency of redress for vulnerable population, and upgrade the complaint-handling system more effectively and more friendly to the public. 

For safety, the Agency shall ensure food safety by strictly monitoring imported agricultural and livestock products and foods frequently consumed by Koreans, while establishing recall task force to revitalize recalls.

Thirdly, for consumer welfare, the KCA shall come up with plans to lighten household burden due to household debts and telecommunication fees to improve transaction environment largely concerned with people’s living and conduct research on policy direction of consumer affairs in national welfare. The Agency shall provide more information on product and service comparison to narrowing information gap hindering consumers from making a ration consumption choice. In the same vein, the KCA shall contribute to price stabilization and corporate efforts to raise competitiveness.

Also, it continues to share no efforts to support Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SME) in strengthening competitiveness. The Agency shall promote and spread Consumer-Centered Management (CCM) to support SMEs more substantially and make efforts to improve consumer welfare by estimating how consumer-oriented the market is and improving market function. 

And, for local consumers, the Agency shall identify pending consumer issues in local area and suggest solution methods customized to the local area. Meanwhile, the KCA continues to bridge the gap in consumer benefits between local areas and metropolitan areas by additionally establishing its Regional Office in Daegu and Ganwon area.

 

Lastly, the KCA shall make efforts to improve national brand image by revitalizing international cooperation as it supports the ASEAN in their efforts to advance consumer policy and administration and pass down advance consumer policy to developing nations including Vietnam.
