Want to find the perfect match Be wary of matchmaking services - Greater caution is required of consumers wishing to use matchmaking services. Each year, more than 2,000 consumer complaints about matchmaking services are reported to the 1372 Consumer Counseling Center. The Korea Consumer Agency conducted an in-depth analysis of 339 cases of consumer damages related to matchmaking services. According to the analysis, "the provision of false information" was the most frequent cause of damages at 32.8%, followed by "cancellation refusal" at 27.1% and "excessive penalty requests" at 12.7%. Before consumers sign up, businesses seduce consumers with promises of a "limitless matching service" or "extra matching services beyond the contract". However, when it comes to the problem of contract termination and refund, businesses tend to impose an excessive penalty according to their biased terms and conditions. The KCA advises consumers to check and clarify the clause related to refund and service in a written contract in detail. Furthermore, the KCA suggested improvement of the regulations to provide "a written profile" to consumers and the relevant authority’s supervision of businesses to prevent further consumer damages arising from the provision of false information. |
