Surge in no. of consumer damage related to car rental services including overcharge claims for compensatio | |||||

- Consumers are advised to purchase a loss damage waiver or LDW on a rental car The Korea Consumer Agency (President: Dae-pyo Jung, www.kca.go.kr) did an analysis on 2,162 consumer damage and counseling cases related to car rental reported to the Consumer Counseling Network (www.ccn.go.kr) from Jan., 2008 to June, 2012. The most leading complaint related to car rental was damage due to car accidents without a LDW purchased (674 cases, 31.2%, followed by overcharge claims for compensation when it is insured (611 cases, 28.3%) and car rental business’ rejection to give a refund for rental cost (438 cases, 20.3%). In line with the widespread use of car rental services for traveling in tourist spot, no. of consumer complaints are also on the continued rise since 2008. In particular, last year, 664 consumer complaint cases were reported in this regard. This was 112.1% (+351 cases) growth y-y. Also, the increasing trend in consumer damage continued in this year as seen in 514 cases reported until end-June, 2011. Against this backdrop, the Agency asked consumers to pay more attention to reduce chances of being damaged due to car rental services. |
