Users of ‘Arm and Hammer Spinbursh’ Should be more cautious against consumer injury
The Consumer Safety Center of the Korea Consumer Agency (President: Young-seen Kim, www.kca.go.kr) asked consumers use caution when using Arm & Hammer Spinbrush of Church & Dwight, which was reported to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regarding its safety issue. The product was imported and distributed by Yuhan Corporation from Oct., 2010. And, about 90,000 items in total were sold to date. Consumer detriment related to the product include chipped or broken tooth, mouth or gum cut, swallowing parts of the toothbrush, or injury to face or eye part. Spinbrush for adults has replaceable heads that could cause injuries as the heads come off and metal parts underneath are exposed. Meanwhile, Spinbrush for kids does not have replaceable heads, yet still cause lip cut, burn due to the batteries, or bristle coming off the toothbrush head and being stuck in children’s tonsils. The Agency conducted an investigation on the products in the market to find Spinbrush products, which failed to attach a notice for consumer hazards, and asked the Company for improvement. And, the company accepted the proposal and started to label the notice on the product released from early-March, 2012 and also post the notice warning on their webpage. Meanwhile, the Agency asked users of the Spinbrush products, which do not have the warning sign, to check whether there is any loose part, change the brush head every three months, and use the toothbrush for its original purpose only within use-by date.
