KCA developed a functional game for child safety
Date 2012-03-19 Hit 2254
The Korea Consumer Agency (President: Young-seen Kim, www.kca.go.kr) developed PC-based functional games. The games, utilizing ‘Backkom’, one of the most popular cartoon characters among kids, are designed to teach children how to raise safety awareness and prevent a safety accident for themselves by playing amusing games.

The functional games are easily accessible by clicking the ‘Safety Game for Children’ subcategory of the ‘Consumer Safety Center’ category on the KCA website (www.kca.go.kr ) or the ‘Children's Safety Net (www.isafe.go.kr)’ button on the affiliated website menu at the bottom of the KCA website.

The games are developed based on joint cooperation between the Korea Creative Contents Agency (President: Jae-woong Lee, www.kocca.kr) and deal with three areas of safety at home, safety at facilities like school, and food safety.

From the planning stage, these games were based on analyzing a variety of true safety accidents cases filed to the KCA, targeting first and second graders of elementary schools, who are the most frequent victims in terms of safety accidents. The games are not only effective in safety education but also quite entertaining with top quality surpassing the existing flash games. By playing the games repetitively, children are expected to naturally develop safety awareness.

Meanwhile, according to the Consumer Injury Surveillance System (CISS) of the KCA, the number of safety accident case involving children aged five to nine continues to rise every year as seen in 2,262 cases, 2,768, and 3,514 in 2008, 2009, and 2010, respectively.
