Cautions are needed more with an indoor swing for kids as safety accidents related to those products are on the continued rise including slips and falls.

According to the Korea Consumer Agency (President: Kim Young-seen, www.kca.go.kr), number of consumer damage cases reported to the KCA’s Consumer Injury Surveillance System (CISS)

According to the Consumer Injury Surveillance System (CISS) of the Korea Consumer Agency (President: Kim Young-seen, www.kca.go.kr), number of case reported to the System related to kids indoor swing has grown continuously as seen in 19 cases as of end-June, 2011 from 17, 18, and 24 in 2008, 2009, and 2010, respectively.

The KCA recently conducted a test of load endurance (which tests whether a subject is safe with a certain level of weight) for seven kinds of kids indoor swing on the market and found that one item (14.3%) out of seven swings fell short of the standard at present.

Based on these results, the Agency is going to recommend the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards to supplement safety standards such as adding safety test to list of items to be tested for kids indoor swings.

Also, the Agency recommended a voluntary recall to a producer of the product found to be inappropriate for the safety standard at present (the product in question is going to be recalled). Also, the Agency is going to make a recommendation to the industry to conduct a thorough safety check for products as well as supplement safety information on manual.

Meanwhile, the Agency advised consumers to read the manual before installing a kid indoor swing and confirm whether it is tightened and installed strongly such as screw and component.
