Disclosure of Cost Information

On July 1st, 2011, the Korea Consumer Agency (President: Kim Young-seen, www.kca.go.kr) disclosed cost information of public utility charge of six kinds such as electric charge, train fare, city gas (wholesale), multi-regional water supply charge (wholesale), toll fee, and postal rate on its T-Price website (http://price.tgate.or.kr).

Cost information has been drawn up and disclosed based on 2010 account settlement result by each institution each responsible institution after being reviewed by experts, consumer group, and the Ministry in charge.

 Disclosure of cost information of public utility charges was introduced from last year to enhance transparency of public utility charges and induce public institutions to voluntarily reduce cost and a range of the disclosure was expanded this year.

Contents of the Disclosure
As equally as the last year, cost information that compromises each public utility charge by major item is disclosed and a method and a standard of calculating cost are explained.
Expanding the disclosure range

Enhancing comparability and uniformity by disclosing data for closing accounts (for the past five years) and budget (this year) of all the targeted institutions 

Method of disclosure
In order to enhance comparability and convenience of using information, the cost information shall be disclosed not only on each institution’s website but also on T-Price website (http://price.tgate.or.kr) of the KCA.

The recent decision of the disclosure is expected to stimulate a process to streamline business of each public institution as well as stabilize public utility charge, as public utility charge is closely linked with daily lives of the people and management of the appropriate public corporation.
