Special cautions are required for female drivers as a recent survey found that there are many women drivers that lack concentration.
The Korea Consumer Agency (President: Kim Young-seen, www.kca.go.kr) recently conducted a joint research with the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association (KAMA) on driving safety of 519 female drivers residing in seven regions including Seoul. According to the research, majority of the respondents answered that they had experience of getting distracted by making calls (76.5%), setting a GPS (65.4%), and texting (40.1%) while driving. And 39.3% of the respondents answered that the distraction made themselves sense danger of car accident.
The research also found that 43.7% of the female drivers did not know how to use a reflective triangle that is obligatory in every vehicle in Korea. And only 26.2% of the respondents answered that they knew how to check the engine oil and water. Meanwhile, 71.5% of the female drivers traveling with a child answered that they did not use child’s protective gear or sometimes they did not.
Based on these results, the KCA is going to make various proposals including enhancing education to develop safe driving capabilities of female drivers and tightening up on traffic law violations to relevant authorities. Meanwhile, the Agency asked female drivers to make a greater effort for driving vehicles more carefully and strengthening everyday safety check for their vehicles.
