The Korea Consumer Agency (President: Kim, Young-Seen, www.kca.go.kr) and National Fisheries Products Quality Inspection Service (Head: Bang, Gi-hyeok) concluded an MOU on business cooperation on May 14, 2010. The MOU signed is aimed to create a consumer-friendly environment in which consumers can consume safe quality fishery products without any anxiety and strengthen co-response in marine product area for strengthened consumer safety.
NFIS has expertise in safety control of fishery products in Korea by operating imported and exported marine products hygiene and safety inspection · quarantine, and country-of-origin labeling, while the KCA, a public institution with expertise in consumer safety, collects consumer damage information by establishing Consumer Safety Center and running Consumer Injury Surveillance System (CISS) and carries out testing, survey, and research activities on consumer safety.
The MOU concluded is expected to significantly strengthen consumer safety in marine products as the two organizations determined to further information-sharing on consumer safety in fishery products and cooperation in research and test on marine product hygiene and safety.
