The Korea Consumer Agency (President: Kim, Young-Seen, www.kca.go.kr) is going to implement mobile consumer counseling, consumer education, free service inspection for household appliances and voluntary activities for rural communities for the vulnerable consumer groups such as farmers and the elderly in Geosan of Chungbuk Province on March 24, 2010.
In particular, consumer education will be given to farmers and the elderly as many of them are often victimized by voice phishing and door-to-door sales. The education will focus on damage cases and how to protect themselves from the wicked salesmanship. Consumer counseling will cover comprehensive areas such as agriculture, products, and services. Also, voluntary activities for rural communities will be carried out together as the rural area is always short-handed.
This time of the event is designed to provide substantial benefits such as mobile consumer counseling, consumer education, free service inspection for household appliances, medical check-up service, and voluntary activities for farmers and the elderly suffering in places where there is less consumer protection in place. The event will be carried out by the KCA along with the National Agricultural Cooperatives Foundation (NACF) and Korea’s major three home electronic appliances manufacturers including Samsung Eletronics, LG Electronics, and Daewoo Electronics.
Meanwhile, the KCA sets consumer protection activities for the vulnerable consumer groups as one of major goals for 2010 and plans to carry out a variety of projects such as instructor training for customized consumer education, research and development for daily consumption lives of the vulnerable, and test & inspection for items with the most frequent complaints by the vulnerable consumer groups.
