The Korea Tourism Organization (President and CEO: Cham Lee) and the Korea Consumer Agency (President: Kim, Young-Seen, www.kca.go.kr) signed a bilateral MOU for tourist safety and empowerment on March 23rd. The bilateral MOU stemmed from mutual recognition that the two organizations should create new tourism culture and empower consumers.
Based on the MOU, the two organizations shall carry forward cooperative businesses in a variety of fields such as ‘creating renewed culture of tourism for consumption and mutually supporting relevant education programs’, ‘providing information to prevent tourist consumer damages and offering consumer damage redress’, ‘sharing tourism product information and quality certification for tourism service’, and ‘conducting and supporting joint research and survey’.
As the MOU was arranged under circumstances of rising number of tourists in terms of both inbound and outbound, it is estimated to achieve significant effects in tourist consumer empowerment. Also, backed by the effective resolution to tourist consumer damages and complaints, tourists can be more satisfied with tourism in Korea and the image of Korea as tourist destinations is expected to be elevated eventually.
Meanwhile, one KCA official said that the MOU enhanced mutual business cooperation between the two and would make a significant contribution to the Korean tourism industry through tourist consumer empowerment at home and abroad.
