KCA’s consumer empowerment efforts for female marriage immigrants

Celebrating the ‘Consumer Week (Nov. 30th ~ Dec. 5th), President Kim, Young-seen of the Korea Consumer Agency (www.kca.go.kr) invites immigrant brides living in Seong-nam city, Gyeonggi-do area for lunch on Dec. 2nd. During the lunch, President Kim listens to difficulties the migrants, who are vulnerable in terms of consumption, are going through, and encourages them by providing them with a variety of support programs to help them to adjust to daily consumption life in Korea.  
The program will give a lot more information on basic economic life and daily consumption including shopping guidelines, assistance invitation tips when encountering performance problems after product purchase, how to write a good housekeeping book, how to use bank, and recycling and separate garbage collection for low-carbon green growth. 
Also, the occasion is expected to help them to become more adaptable to daily consumption life in Korea and increase their consumer economic competency through study visit to safety and quality comparative test for consumer goods and direct participation in tests.  
Since assuming the position as President in Sept., 2009, President Kim set consumer protection activity for the vulnerable groups as one of strategic objectives and pushed forward diversified projects such as ‘Survey on consumption of multi-cultural families’, ‘Consumer education for female marriage immigrants (five rounds)’, ‘Education for instructors for multi-cultural families (five rounds)’, and publications of related materials. Also, the Agency plans to continue its efforts for the vulnerable in 2010 through ‘Survey and research on daily consumption of multi-cultural families’ and ‘Expert instructor training for customized consumer education for the vulnerable’.  
          Meanwhile, the Agency provides farmers and senior citizens in Young-ju of Gyoung-sang-buk-do area with customized consumer education and consumer counseling, service promotion for cell phone performance check, and portrait scroll photographing for seniors to give them more benefits as well as help them to lead consumption life more rationally.
