The Korea Consumer Agency (President Myung-hee Park) released that it officially opened ‘T-gate’, a portal site providing information on goods selection on April 1, 2009. The portal had been opened on Dec 3, 2008 on celebrating the Consumer Day after pilot operation period of three months.

T-gate, or ‘Trust Gate for Consumers’ offers a long menu of items such as Quality Comparison Report, Consumer Participation Zone, Price Information, Purchase Information, and Statistics on Consumer Damage in order to help a consumer to get an easy access to information on goods selection by simply visiting the web portal. 

During the pilot operation period, T-gate made and offered informative contents more than 2,200 cases in total. Also a large number of consumers visited the portal as seen in the number of hits for the site that reached 210,000 times. The popularity of the portal among consumers, who are bored with advertising product information provided by companies, is presumably due to consumers’ preference for more trustworthy information.

T-gate plans to improve weak points that are found during the pilot operation period in order to grow to a web portal that meet the demands of consumers in the so-called Consumer Sovereignty Age. At the same time, the portal site will double its efforts to secure consumers’ confidence and make informative contents solely oriented to consumers. The KCA continued to say that it will encourage more consumers, experts, and consumer information agencies to take part in developing the web portal to produce and offer consumer information with expertise and diversity by providing a venue to make and utilize informative contents.
