The Korea Future Consumer Society (co-represented by Mun-whan Kim, Gi-chun Lee, and Myung-hee Park) will hold its eighth forum in Plaza Hotel, Seoul, at 7:00 am on March 20, 2009. In the forum, Seiko Noda, Japan's state minister in charge of science and technology policy, food safety, consumer affairs and space policy is expected to deliver a speech on ‘the Present and Future of the Japanese Consumer Policy’. |
■ Japan, trying to reform how to promote consumer policies
In Japan, the necessity for strengthening consumer policy has been raised in line with diversified consumer issues including the recent scandal of frozen dumpling poisoning appearing on the surface of the society. In particular, the Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda delivered a policy speech in a plenary sessionxxxxxx of the Diet in early-2008. During his speech, Prime Minister Fukuda mentioned 1) positioning the year 2008 as the starting year towards a society in which the consumers play leading roles and 2) shifting to Administrative policies that put the people and consumers first. Since then, Japan is doing its utmost efforts to reform how to promote consumer policies including establishment of a new organization to promote consumer policy.
During her speech, Minister Seiko Noda is estimated to give an explanation of the present Japanese Consumer Policy, the progress of the reorganization of the Japanese consumer Administration, and the future plan. The lecture will be a meaningful moment to Korea in terms of having sense of the future consumer policy in Korea.
■ Venue for active discussions on consumer issues by experts from all levels of the society
Minister Seiko Noda is a member of the House of Representative, serving her fifth term. She is also currently the State Minister of Consumer Affairs (appointed in Aug., 2008).
This forum will invite experts from all levels of the society including renowned politicians, the Government agencies in charge of consumer policy, CEOs, the academic circle, the press, and the law. They are expected to have a vigorous discussion and make inquiries about the Japanese consumer policy.
Meanwhile, the Korea Future Consumer Society aiming at making of economic society that puts consumers first, was set up in Dec., 2007 and held seven rounds of seminars and breakfast lectures. The society has its 200 members of leaders in corporations, business associations, consumer agency, academic circle, politicians, the law, the press, and the Government Agency.
