□ The Korea Consumer Agency (President: Myung-Hee Park) has decided to release consumer damage redress statistics (by business type) in order to guarantee consumers' right and to promote voluntary dispute resolution.

○ The KCA released E-commerce related consumer damage redress statistics on 10 business operators in October 2008. This time, the KCA has disclosed the consumer damage redress statistics on the automobile industry from October 2005 to September 2008.

□ The purposes of disclosing 'the consumer dispute statistics' by business operators are as follows;
ㅇ To guarantee the consumer's right to know and the right to choose,
ㅇ To encourage the business operators' voluntary dispute resolution efforts and their preventive measures against consumer damages.

□ The sectors for statistical release are as follows;
ㅇ Frequent consumer transaction sectors, high demand information fields and business sectors where frequent consumer damages have occurred.

□ The statistics will be disclosed more often to guarantee the consumers' right and to promote voluntary dispute resolution.

Kia : 809,411 units, Hyundai: 1,726,564 units, GM Daewoo: 355,160 units, Renault Samsung: 318,010 units, SSangyong : reference was not submitted. (Based on documents submitted by companies)

** 91 same damage cases (instrument panel) were included in the No. of claims regarding Kia motors.
