Press Conference was held to urge the investigation on Hanaro Telecom
In August, Korea Communications Commission (KCC) ordered business suspension along with surcharge and fine against the high-speed internet service operators such as Hanaro Telecom, KT and LG Powercom for misappropriating personal information of their clients. Moreover, these operators also handed over the personal information to third parties, causing an even big social controversy. Unfortunately, Korea Communications Commission has not yet taken the proper measures against the matter. The press conference was held on September 9, 2008 by the Citizens' Coalition for Economic Justice (CCEJ), Consumers Korea, and the National YWCA of Korea to prosecute Hanaro Telecom, KT and LG Powercom on a charge of giving out clients’ information to third parties. The consumer organizations also urged the prosecution to conduct a prompt investigation of the Hanaro Telecom who had already been punished by the Korea Communications Commission and sent to the prosecution by police investigations.
