Some of the Advertised Flameproof Roll Screens are NOT Flameproof
Shown by the Test Result of Advertised Functional Textile Products

A flameproof test over 11 roll screen products showed that 2 of the products do not have the flameproof function, different from the contents of their advertisements.

** A flameproof product refers to a flame-proofed product or a product made of materials resistant to flame. If a product is labeled as “flameproof,” it should meet the Standard for Firefighting Capacity (Notification on Textile Labeling) promulgated by the National Emergency Management Agency.

Sunlight durability test also showed that 3 of the tested products fell short of the standard, according to the Korea Consumer Agency (KCA)’s test of 11 types of roll screens advertised to be flameproof, to verify the contents of advertisements and labels of the products.

□ Two of the Tested Roll Screens Advertised as Flameproof Completely Combusted
Under the Quality Management and Safety Control of Industrial Products Act, those products labeled or advertised as flameproof should meet the standard for firefighting capacity of the Article 20 of the Enforcement Decree of Installation, Maintenance, and Safety Control of Fire-fighting System Act. However, two of the tested products did not meet the standard, which means that products sellers had been using marketing hypes or deceptive advertisements.

□ Three of the 11 Tested Roll Screens Turned out to be Easily Discolored and Poor-Quality
As the primary purpose of roll screens is to block sun rays, they should not become easily discolored. However, the sunlight durability test showed that the colors of the three roll screens (our of 11 products) could changed easily when exposed to sun rays.

The KCA is planning to send the test results to Korea Fair Trade Commission and the National Emergency Management Agency and ask to take corrective measures for the manufacturers in question. The KCA also asked consumers to choose roll screens with a flameproof inspection certificate issued by a relevant test center.
