When purchasing a car, consumers are unable to choose safety-related optional items such as ‘passenger seat airbags’ in the case of low-priced vehicles. This prompted the Korea Consumer Protection Board (KCPB) recently did a survey on safety-related ‘optional items’ sales among 21 types of cars manufactured by 5 local automakers.
More and more consumers tend to select safety-related optional items such as ‘passenger seat air bags’. However, this survey found that 25% of cars (identical vehicle type but low in price) didn’t offer safety-related optional items.

Based on the above findings, the KCPB proposed measures for policy improvements to the Ministry of Construction and Transportation such as expanding consumer choices on vehicle optional items. Furthermore, it urged relevant industries to enable purchasers of low-priced vehicles to freely select optional items related to safety.
