Some ‘Gluten Free’ Products May Differ From Their Labels or Advertisements

- Supervision of products labeled ‘gluten free’ needs to be strengthened -


Sales of food products marked ‘Gluten Free’ are increasing as gluten, commonly used in the manufacture of bread, snacks and cakes, is becoming known to cause allergies or digestive disorders.

* Gluten : a protein found in wheat, barley and rye that contributes to the rise and chewy texture of bread

However, as a result of an inspection on products marked ‘gluten free’ conducted by Korea Consumer Agency(President Jang Duck-Jin, KCA), gluten content of some products exceed the amount suggested by a labeling standards.
